Drake Got Lyrics From A TV Show 📺

Drake has had some crazy verses over the years, but this line from Popstar might take the cake. I saw Arin Ray live last weekend, and apparently Cole has passed on some insane beats 🎧 (3 min read)

Drake's Irish Toast

There is always controversy surrounding Drake and the original source of his song lyrics. But let’s be clear, The Boy writes raps and can rap better than a lot of your favorite rappers 🎤

Here’s a story about some Drake lyrics that’s unlike any other though…so you’re obviously familiar with the Drake and DJ Khaled hit Popstar. In the first verse, Drake raps:

I want a quick death (yeah), and an easy one (yeah) / I want a pretty girl (yeah), and an honest one (yeah) / I want this drink (yeah), and another one (yeah)

But do you know where these lyrics actually come from? Believe it or not, these lyrics are actually an interpretation of a classic Irish toast which is featured in the TV series Outlander. Check out the scene 👇

Arin Ray Concert

Here’s a quick story from my weekend. Arin Ray is one of my favorite R&B artists out right now and I attended his concert at Bowery Ballroom in NYC this past weekend. And let me tell you one thing, it surpassed all my expectations. To a sold out crowd, he performed most of his latest album Hello Poison and debut album Platinum Fire 🔥

Everything about his performance was A1 - his stage presence was immaculate, his vocals were sensational and his crowd engagement was over the top. He was literally taking people’s iPhones from the crowd and recording selfie videos of him singing his songs. Peep these amazing pics my buddy David snapped that Arin actually reposted to his IG 🥰

If you’re not hip to Arin, please make yourself acquainted with this superstar ASAP. He’s the real deal. Check out his hit song Bad Idea with Blxst 👇

J. Cole Passed On Legendary Beats

Very few people on the face of this earth have a better beat selection track record than J. Cole. But he’s made a few bad decisions in the past, and legendary producer No I.D. just spilled the tea on the Rap Caviar Podcast 😏

He said that a few years back, he was in a session with Cole and showed him the beats for Control by Big Sean, Kendrick & Jay Electronica, My Last by Big Sean & Chris Brown, Tears Of Joy by Rick Ross & Cee-Lo, and Stay by Nas & Large Professor. Cole - c’mon fam 🤦🏽‍♂️

Those are all such legendary beats and somehow he said no to all of them. Well, he actually did rap over Stay on his 2013 mixtape Truly Yours, but it was never officially released 👇

To finish it off, here’s 5 new songs you need in your rotation ASAP 🎧

Playlist here as always, enjoy your week fam 💜
