TikTok Remix

Some think it’s for the better while others think it’s for the worse, but whether you like it or not, TikTok is changing the music landscape. And I understand both sides of the argument. Now, songs are getting shorter and shorter and only recognized for the 7 seconds they appear in a TikTok video. Remember when the crowd couldn’t sing the second verse of Steve Lacy’s Bad Habit? 😅

Now that’s bad. But hey, at least he sold out the venue. However, there are some positive ways in which TikTok is changing the music world. TikTok is now the biggest and best discovery tool for aspiring artists and musicians. Your videos can be seen by anyone at any time - very similar to what MySpace, YouTube and Twitter was in the early 2010s 🙏

So let’s take a closer look at one of the coolest examples of this I just recently discovered. Anees (linked above) is an amazing artist out of the D.C. area I discovered on TikTok a while back. His voice is so powerful. Not too long ago, he released his single Leave Me and after its success, it went viral on TikTok for his “Open Verse Challenge” video where artists could duet the video and show off their own verse to the song. Among the thousands of submissions, this one by Michael Minelli stood out to Anees 👇

And just last week, Anees dropped the video to the official remix of the song and it’s absolutely AMAZING. Check it out 👏
