Lyricist Of The Year DRAMA 🤢
The BET Hip Hop awards are coming up, and people are not happy with some of the nominees. I also have two insane freestyles queued up if you need some juice 🧃 (4 min read)

Lyricist Of The Year
The BET Hip Hop Awards are a highly coveted event, and it’s right around the corner on October 4th. For traditional hip-hop heads, the Lyricist Of The Year award is a big one, given the importance of writing within the genre. This year, the list of nominees caused some outrage 😡
From the beginning of hip hop, lyrics have been the standard! Check out the nominees for Lyricist of the Year: #HipHopAwards#BET @babykeem
@BennyBsf
@drizzy
@JColeNC
@jackharlow
#JayZ

Yes, you read that correctly, BABY KEEM AND JACK HARLOW 😶
Now I’m not hating on these artists whatsoever, because I respect both and am fully aware of both of their lyrical abilities, but personally I don’t believe either of them belong anywhere near this list
BET really made a lyricist of the year list and put Jack Harlow and Baby Keem over Black Thought, Lupe Fiasco, Joey Bada$$, Denzel Curry, Billy Woods, Boldy James, Conway the Machine, Pusha T, Lloyd Banks, JID, Roc Marciano, etc, etc…

Especially given the caliber of some other hip-hop artists that dropped albums this year. For example 🔊
When you get a minute, tap into one of these albums...then tell me they shouldn't be nominated 👀

Freestyles Are Fun
Rappers rarely rap over the same beat twice, but J. Cole did. So if you’re an OG Cole fan, you’ll remember when he first rapped over Souls of Mischief’s, ‘93 Til Infinity on The Warm Up’s, Til Infinity back in 2009
12 years later, right before Cole dropped his 6th solo studio album The Off-Season, he pulled up to the LA Leakers for the very first time. And of course, Cole spit a freestyle over that same beat he rapped over 12 years prior on his breakout mixtape 🗣
If you can think of any other rappers who have rapped over the same beat twice, please let me know. But wow, one of my favorite full circle moments in hip hop history 🐐
Next up we have Action Bronson, one of my favorite human beings on the face of the earth. Never forget when he spit this amazing freestyle on Funk Flex
That’s all 💡
