New Music New Music

Last week was a busy week for new music releases, most of which flew a bit under the radar. Let me walk you through some of my favorite releases from last week, both albums and singles 👇

• Arin Ray just released his latest EP, Phases III, which is the third installment of this series which started in 2016. Arin was immensely disappointed with his last release, Hello Poison (which I absolutely loved FWIW) and he described his growth since then was like “when Kobe switched his number from 8 to 24”. I really enjoyed this project for a multitude of reasons. It was short and sweet, 11 songs and 26 minutes. The themes of love and lust really cut through and the production was stellar. And I also just love Arin Ray. So go listen to this one ASAP 🔥

• Next is the world class Naomi Sharon. If you follow my page, you may have seen this video I posted recently spotlighting her as the first female artist signed to OVO Sound (video). She just dropped her debut album Obsidian and it is a fantastic piece of work. If you like Sade, Snoh Aalegra, Maeta and Cleo Sol, Naomi is definitely for you. My favorite track so far is If This Is Love. Give this one a spin

• The next project I want to highlight is I Left My Heart In Ladera by Terrace Martin & Alex Isley. This project is a perfect 9 songs, 32 minutes and a beautiful blend of jazz, R&B and soul music. Martin wrote in a recent post that “Alex Isley is the first artist in years to challenge me and pushed me to better”, and the few times he previously felt like this was when he worked with Snoop Dogg and Kendrick Lamar 👀

This is just vintage Wale. Elite level rapping with an amazing Missy Elliot & Lil Mo sample 🤝

Drifted is just one of those ones. An insanely smooth and atmospheric production with great vocals from a budding Jayla 🎶

Blowfly is a true blast from the past. A bouncy soulful chop on the beat. I mean, is there anything better than a TDE link up? 🙏

Ave Maria by Zacari & Ty Dolla $ign is a big chune. A soulful bop. Trust me you’re going to like this one 🎧

New Sound Cypher

One of my favorite new artists - Yoshi T. - just pulled up for the 5th installment of the Sound Cypher. He literally skated over one of my favorite Jay-Z songs of all-time, Girls, Girls, Girls. Check this out 🏆
